The pipeline is a good thing. Having much of the USA refining capacity on the gulf coast leaves the USA susceptible to disruptions caused by hurricanes and tropical storms. New refining capacity should be built in the midwest to be closer to demand and protect from harsh and unpredictable weather.

Hopefully they will maintain it properly so that they don't destroy our coast. They have a bad habit of building it and forgetting about it.

If refineries are cutting production, why send more crude?

Good comments so far.
Can we build a refinery in the northern tier, like one of the Dakota's, or is the weather too extreme (cold) there?

And in turn, Canada gets to take our $$ along with world's oil prices.

As long as we keep foreign interests OUT of Canadian oil projects, except America, then we shall be better off. We keep the money in domestic North America, not sent overseas.
Perhaps OPEC can contribute to world disaster relief ... they must have lots of spare money.

I agree 1Casey. This is a sign of hope that we can get more of our oil from our own continent.
